"Our time had been a mere breath in the wind, but I'd left with a lifetime of love. I'd walked away thinking he would spend his life doing what he loved."
To say I was eagar to get my hands on Connors story would be the understatement of the century! My interest was piqued from the very first book in the Unyeilding Series as the intrigue surrounding Connor had me chopping at the bit to read it but at the same time I was apprehensive to get started. As soon as I read the first line all apprehension disappeared and I was hooked!
Connor was presumed dead by his family but in actual fact he'd been taken by Vault and used as a test subject for a drug developed to make the user of it into a killing machine who's sole purpose was to carry out Vaults dirty work . The drugs effects left Connor unable to remember things. He forgot his family, himself and the things he was made to do. He was unfeeling, showed no remorse and became a cold killing machine for Vault.
Connors now free from Vault and is no longer under the influence of their drug but it's left him unbalanced and full of rage...
Alina is settling into her new life after being saved from her old life by Conner. She hasn't seen him since he left her. While she's is at work one night, Conner turns up. Still feeling the withdrawal effects of the drug but he remembers her...
“Do you know what it’s like to be afraid to fall asleep because of nightmares, but they aren’t nightmares. They are real things I’ve done and I have to wake up again and live with that. But far worse is the constant fear of waking up with no memories at all. Forgetting her.”
What comes next was one of the most heart breaking journeys for a character I've been on in a long time. I felt every emotion, every word and my eyes may have shed a tear for him as he commenced his road to recovery. His struggle is real, I felt his anger, his rage, his fear and ultimately his love for Alina.
‘I’d needed to feel the pain of losing him over and over again. It was my reminder of him. It kept him alive within me. Our time had been a mere breath in the wind, but I’d left with a lifetime of love.’
Nashoda Rose delivered an exceptional story. He writing style instantly draws you in. Switching between past and present day through the chapters ensures you feel everything that the characters do. I was firmly strapped into my seat as the story took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. The character's were real, their insecurities, fears and love were some of the strongest I've read. They we were well developed and as they progressed just got better.
I can't recommend Nashoda Rose enough nor her books. I can't wait to read more from this series!
