5 STARS
I always enjoy box sets, getting the opportunity to find new to me authors and books. An example in this set is Familiar by Frances Pauli--a gem of a find. I expected a cute little mystery, which I also enjoy. Not this one. A mystery that I never solved (a rare thing). New cop in town is a big city cop, dealing with the pressures of his job. Instead of getting out altogether, Ray eases into small town policing with nothing much to deal with—except witches, demons, and stalkers. A good story with no sight of the real bad guy until the very end. Old tragedies, new possibilities, but first, Ray and Deirdre have to find the bad guy. I thoroughly enjoyed and plan to read more from this author and to check out the other stories and authors. A strong recommend from me.

She's always been a fan of things outside the box, odd, weird or unusual, and that trend follows through to her tales which feature aliens, fairies, and even, on occasion, an assortment of humans.
