Holy cow! I loved this story!! What a complicated, unexpected story with characters rich in complexity! Ashland Keys and Fanny Bay meet unexpectedly before an awards show that both are nominated. Ashland is her idol, the drummer for the Dirt Dogs. The meeting is everything awkward, when fan meets star......
"Hey, no worries. I get it. You should have seen how tongue tied I got when I met Dave Grohl the first time."
(I was tickled pink when I read that as I'm a huge Foo Fighters fan!)
At that meeting, we also meet Fannie's father, a most reprehensible man. Ash and Fanny have an attraction at the first meeting but it isn't until 3 years later, they meet again in some very different circumstances. Both of their lives have changed drastically.
Ash's friends, who are also his family, are front and center in this story, always supportive, always there for him. Fanny's little sister also captivates!
I loved the writing style of this author!
He was so incredibly good looking he made my thoughts mushy......Like the ocean where it meets the shore. Like a summer breeze. Like freshly peeled citrus. No, like a gentle wind moving over a grove of oranges beside the sea on the most perfect summer day you could ever imagine.
Right before my eyes, I watched him transform. The tender openly affectionate man retreated into himself, becoming a one-man island, hiding behind his diagnosis like I had been concealing my identify beneath my disguise. We had more in common than I had realized. We were each afraid to reveal to the other what would make us the most vulnerable.
I read and loved the first book in this series but somehow missed book 2. I will definitely go back and read that one next. And I cannot wait for Hollie's story!! I recommend highly!!
