Donna's Review:

Louise Bay is one talented author; I am truly in love with her writing and her characters. In What the Lightening Sees, Harry (Jake) and Haven are a wonderful example of instant attraction thwarted by insecurities and deviousness. Jake is a self-made millionaire not interested in commitment, while Haven is a hard working woman who can’t stand overly confident, spoiled rich men. Haven is very uptight at work, she’s trying to be professional, but when she’s forced to work with Jake, her lips begin flapping and what she has to say isn’t very polite. It doesn’t bother Jake too much; he’s enjoying the challenge of the attractive “bitch”. This compilation of three novellas has ups and downs, sexy, heartwarming and emotional scenes. I would have liked very much to know what is going on between Luke and Emma. I hope there will be another story to explain that pair. Louise Bay is a wonderful author and I look forward to reading more of her work. I give this collection 5 stars with 4 hands down the pants.

Stephanie's Reviews:

What the Lightening Sees - Part 1

This is one of my favorite authors! Her stories are wonderful and I jumped at the chance to review her new novella trilogy, What the Lightening Sees. And, of course, she did not disappoint!!

This is the story of Harry (Jake) and Haven who are put together at work on a project. Haven lacks self-confidence, is a beautiful woman, but dresses very conservative, so she doesn't come across as beautiful. But she is a hard worker and really wants to get ahead. She also dislikes spoiled, self-confident men, she assumes Harry to be. She and Harry butt heads from the beginning....

"Why are you even working at this magazine? You clearly don't need the money. Shouldn't you be interning at an investment bank or something?"
"I know you find it difficult, but will you just try not to be bitchy for thirty minutes? If you had any sense, you would be doubly nice to me now that you know I know Sandy."
Was he saying he could make things awkward if I didn't suck up to him. "You're blackmailing me?" I asked him.
He sighed. "Jesus, you're hard work."
"I'm the one trying to keep it professional with the subject of this article," I said. It's like I pressed a button I couldn't turn off. I'd slotted into giving him grief and I couldn't row back.
"You think consistently insulting me is professional?"

Harry is used to getting what he wants and he realizes he wants Haven.

Next week we were in Paris, and if I couldn't seduce a woman in Paris then I'd chop my dick off.

The relationship progresses nicely between them as they get to know each other and I found myself laughing out loud at some of their banter.

"Wow. There are so many things wrong with that statement I don't know where to go with it. The fact that you might have imagined Millie and I discussing anal sex is just plain disturbing, and then there's you insinuating that's what I'm into. I think that constitutes a record for you in terms of how many insults you can pack into a single statement. Anyone would think you're asking to get kissed by me."

The book's chapters are told from alternating POV's which I love. There is an overheard conversation at the end of this book which leaves your heart hurting and a big cliffhanger. Thankfully, I'm moving on to book 2 ASAP!

I highly recommend this series, or anything else that Louise has written. You will not be disappointed.

What the Lightening Sees - Part 2

Another 5 star stellar read from Louise! The first book ends in a cliffhanger, so I immediately started book 2. This book didn't disappoint. There were a lot of ups and downs and frustrating situations. I really began to love the supporting characters too, Ash, Luke and Beth. Jake's sister is the one always dispensing the logical advice. And her character was really needed!! I loved the relationship with her and Jake.

"And before you tell me she doesn't like you and that she's moved on or whatever excuse you're formulating, she does like you. I could tell at the gallery and it doesn't matter what shit's happened. If she's the right girl for you, then fight for her. Stop making excuses."

And if you thought book 1 ended on a cliffhanger, hold on tight! The ending of this will make your heart sink. I immediately started book 3!

What the Lightening Sees - Part 3

This is the final installment of this series and I have thoroughly loved each book. But this book bought me the most angst. I don't want to say very much about so that I don't give anything away.

I just want to say, I hated Millie. I suspect all readers did. Every time Jake's phone rang, I wanted to scream at him to not answer it. I felt so very bad for Haven and she tried so hard to understand. And yet I felt bad for Jake too, trying to balance everything out and running himself crazy doing it.

I loved how Haven grew through this series. And honestly, Jake really had grown as well as he looked back at what his past consisted of and how he wanted nothing to do with what was the norm now that he had met Haven.

This book will take you on a rollercoaster of ups and downs, but it's worth every second of the angst! And I would really hope that Ms. Bay might let us see what happens with Ash and Luke. I felt the need to read their stories next.

I highly recommend this series or anything this wonderful author has written. You will not be disappointed!

I received these copies in exchange for my honest review.
