Protector's Claim Review Blitz

Title: Protector’s Claim
Author: Airicka Phoenix
Genre: Dark Romance

Blurb:

Gabrielle Thornton
I made a mistake.
I allowed myself to be born. I allowed myself access into a life that wasn’t mine, and for that, I had willingly submitted my body and soul to a man whose sadistic pleasures knew no bound, a man who relished in my pain as much as he craved my flesh.
A monster I would do anything to escape.
But what if I could make it stop? What if the cost of freedom was a single night in a stranger’s arms? What if one final sin was all I needed to commit to find peace?
 Kieran Kincaid
I had always known of the sickness that lived inside my father, the demons who controlled the man. His death was a blessing to every innocent he’d destroyed with his dark hunger.
Yet, despite his demise becoming my curse, a shackle trapping me in his twisted secrets, it lured me to it, too. It promised me the thing I coveted above all else. It seduced me deeper into the world I wish I knew nothing of, but there was no turning back, not even if by accepting, by taking what didn’t belong to me made me a monster like him.
Gabby would finally be mine.

“You live here alone?” I asked as he left me at the wide, U-shaped island dominating the majority of the main area to wander over to the fridge.
He nodded. “For the last three years.”
“Where’s your mom?”
He yanked the doors open, releasing a puddle of yellow light across the floor. “She has her own flat downtown. Likes it better there. Closer to the shops.”
It seemed like such a waste, all that space. I couldn’t picture me there at all with all those looming, empty rooms and winding corridors. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself. My apartment wasn’t much to brag about. Even with its smallness, I still felt the pang of loneliness. I couldn’t imagine being here in the cold and dust, surrounded by things that would offer no comfort.
“You don’t like it.”
He was watching me when I blinked out of my reverie.
“It’s not that I don’t like it,” I clarified carefully. “It’s just so…”
“Ostentatious?” He brought out a platter of fruit and placed it on the wraparound counter. “Overdone? An eyesore?”
“Lonely,” I whispered. “I don’t know how I feel about you being here by yourself all the time. I’d lose my mind.”
“That’s the thing, love.” He rounded to my side. “I’ve been alone my entire life. You get used to it.”
“I still don’t like it.”
His hands found my waist and I was pulled to him. Warm palms glided up to my shoulder blades. The heat of them radiated through the thin fabric of my top.
“Then don’t leave me here alone.”
My breath caught. My heart tripped in my chest. It quickened with the light bump of his nose against mine.
“You don’t make sense,” I murmured, fingers lifting to curl around his bare shoulders. “Everything you keep talking about, marriage and moving in together after only one night … men usually avoid those things, don’t they?”
His nose, his lips grazed mine with every slow rock of his head. “I don’t know about other men, but I’ve been waiting three years for you, Gabby. I’ve done my time. I’ve accepted that there’s no winning whatever pull you have on me. The want I had for you in the beginning is now a need I won’t deny myself. I need you. If not here, then I’ll find us a new place, anywhere you want. Whatever you want, it’s yours, just … let me keep you.”
I kissed him.
Fuck common sense.

Miguel’s blood heated as she gave him a wavering smile. She was just too beautiful, with clear skin marked only by a dark mole at the corner of her nose, angled dark eyes and full lickable lips. “I mean,” Tanya continued, “I won’t even be able to recognize the place when its completed. Everything sounds incredible, but I may have to draw the line at the cages for dancers.” He thought she might. “Trust me, if we charge people to dance in them, they will pay. The one rule is that they have to keep their clothes on.” “We’ll see.” She stared at the screen again with her eyes unblinking “Um…” She rubbed the back of her neck and a light sheen of sweat broke out on her forehead. “How much will this cost?” Now for the heavy convincing. He got up and stood beside her to point at the CCTV screen showing the dance area, which had filled up a little more in the hour they’d been going over his ideas. “I can see this place packed, people waiting all the way up the street trying to get in. VIP area filled with actors, musicians and pro athletes flying in to experience it.” Unable to resist, he leaned close so they were almost cheek to cheek. Her heat and honeysuckle perfume floated into him, and he turned his head so his starving lips could caress her one more time. He kissed along her jaw until he met the sensitive area of her neck, where he teased her with gentle nips until she moaned. She sprang as far away from him as the room would allow. What had he been thinking? Why did she affect him this way? She took away his willpower like no other woman had ever done. Thinking became almost impossible when she was around. The desire to smooth his hands over her incredibly silky soft skin drove him to get closer, but he stayed rooted to the spot, watching her rub the goose pimples from her arms. “Answer the question, Miguel.” He was pleased to hear her voice quiver. “How much will it cost?” He’d rather discuss the turbulent heat swirling between them, but if she wanted to ignore it then he should, too. “You’ve heard the saying that you have to spend money to make money, right?” Her slow nod brought her hair forward. He watched as she brushed back the strands he wanted to filter his fingers through, bringing her close so they could fall into the attraction drawing them together.

Darkside Love Affair

by

Michelle Rosigliani

Series: Darkside Love Affair, #1
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 1, 2018

I have never wanted to become a lawyer, but that didn't mean that I wasn't perfectly cut for the job. I loved order, justice, and the little, annoying habits that I never strayed from.
My life was a well-oiled machine, then I met him, and everything burst into flames.
Marcus King, the handsome stranger who rescued me in that dark alley from the clutches of three drunk men, was chaos embodied, a storm about to be unleashed, and a definite pain in my back.
He was infuriating and charming at the exact same time. And he dared to watch me with a deliciously terrifying glint in his eyes like he could read right through me, like he was an intimate connoisseur of all my cravings, like he was the one to satisfy them.
I knew right from the start that he was trouble, and the trouble was that Marcus King never backed from a fight. He was set on getting what he wanted, and he wanted me.
But when a murder case hurls us in the dark side of the world, will Marcus remain the protective shield I need? Will the firestorm we ignite be enough to keep us together or will the flames consume us?

Michelle is an Italian Studies graduate, a passionate reader, and a hopeless romantic. She knew she would write her own novel when she first read The Lady of the Camellias. Now, she crafts love stories that go beyond the flesh and touch the heart. She loves the perfect imperfections of her characters and favors alpha males with a soft side, who live by a code of honor, and witty ladies who are willing to risk everything for their men.
When she is not writing, she likes to explore the world and watch her favorite TV shows. Among other things she is in love with chocolate, sunrises, and the sea.

Her debut novel is called Darkside Love Affair. She is currently working on her second novel, Love in Disguise, which is the sequel to Darkside Love Affair.
“Stop the car, Marcus,” she panted. “Just stop the car.”

I hit the brake so hard as I halted the car on the shoulder of the road that gravel spit everywhere. Charlotte lounged forward, hanging with stiff fingers onto her seatbelt. I shoved the door open and circled the car to get to her side in a single, delirious heartbeat.

“What’s going on?” I demanded, unfastening her seatbelt and pulling her out of the car and to my chest.

Her body was trembling, and her hands were ice cold as she kept panting for breath. The way she was panicking for no apparent reason and the lost look she gave me brought a heavy lump to my throat.

“Charlotte, please, talk to me,” I begged, clutching her shoulders. Something was wrong, and my heart knew it as it kept pounding an insane rhythm in my chest.

“I love you,” she burst, fisting unsteady fingers in my collar. “I love you so much that I can hardly bear it.”

My sigh of relief was so loud that it drowned out her sobbing as well as the buzzing in my ears. My joy was so tremendous and so terribly soothing that I almost missed the total desperation in Charlotte’s eyes.

Then she started crying in earnest, her hands still fisted around my jacket and her breathing still coming out in jagged bursts. She was on the brink of a precipice, and more than anything in my life, I wished she would just fall.

“But?” I asked, fearing the answer.

“There are no buts,” Charlotte gasped and grabbed my head between her quivering hands. “I was afraid to say the words, but I can’t hold them inside anymore. I love you, Marcus.”

Her eyes were wild and passionate as they studied me. At that moment, I grasped that it hadn’t been a weight that had lifted from her shoulders but a truth she had emboldened herself to accept. The undeniable truth of her heart.

I cupped her face and kissed her forehead, gentling the storm whirling in her blood. She sobbed and clung tighter to my collar, as scared of losing me as I was of losing her.

“Then why are you crying?”

“You don’t understand,” she cried and thrust a hand through her hair, ravaging the beauty of her braid. “You have invaded every fiber of my body, every little thought in my head, every corner in my heart. I don’t know how to put a stop to how I feel. I don’t know how to control my emotions. They are rampant, and they have taken over me altogether. My worst day gets better only because I know at the end of it, I will be back in your arms. You make me feel strong and safe. You make me feel confident and beautiful. And you make me utterly unable to picture my world without you in it. I don’t know how to let go, Marcus. I’m falling so deeply for you that I know without a doubt that I won’t be able to function without you. You have the power to break me, and I’m terrified.”

“Oh, my sweet, sweet Charlotte.”

I pulled her to my chest, hugging her tightly, perhaps tighter than I should have, but Charlotte welcomed the discomfort with arms wide open that clamped around my waist just as fiercely.

After a long time of just standing there on the side of the road, with the car parked askew and countless other vehicles speeding past us, I pushed her back enough so I could lean down and smash my mouth against her quivering lips. They welcomed my invasion with a lust so strong and contagious that the more I kissed them, the more addicted I became.

“I’m going nowhere,” I promised, stroking her cheeks with my thumbs. “All those words you’ve said, I feel them too. You are etched in my heart. You are in my blood. You are permanent, Charlotte.”

“I love you,” she repeated. This time her voice was steady, and her words, although full of affection, didn’t sound as desperate as before but precise and unwavering.

I let myself smile then, with relief and gratitude. I smiled until my cheeks hurt and my eyes watered. I smiled until she smiled back and kissed me so thoroughly that by the time the kiss was over both of us were flushed and breathless.

“I love you too, woman,” I told her in a low growl. “But never scare me like that again.”

She chuckled. The little minx chuckled and batted her eyelashes at me like the most innocent of creatures. Looking very proud of herself, she slid back in the car and nodded for me to follow.

Playboy

Synopsis:

A brand new contemporary romance from New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

It started as a game.

Then I discovered who he was: Gambler. Famous playboy. Silver-eyed player who never plays to lose...
And my best friend’s soon-to-be brother in law, Cullen Carmichael.
He needed a good luck charm, I needed a distraction.
So we made a gamble and set off for Vegas—but pretty soon—I was in too deep.
My heart, soul, and body weren't supposed to be part of the deal.
But somewhere between big wins and long nights, my house of cards started to tumble.
What was this devil with those piercing eyes doing to me?
I’d given up on love, but the wicked, all-in Cullen Carmichael was upping the ante and wouldn’t stop until he’d won it all.

Excerpt:

“So you just kissed me because you wanted to.” I speak on a breath.
“Very good. You’re perceptive. Intuitive.”
I realize he’s teasing me in that low, terribly rumbly voice and I wish he would smile at me.
He takes my hand and fingers my palm with his thumb as he leads me to our suite.
I’m sizzling where he touches me, nervously prying my hand free when he leads me into the biggest, most spectacular two-bedroom penthouse suite I’ve ever seen. Not that I’d seen one before in person, only movies.
There’s a kitchen area, and windows from floor to ceiling. A living room, a pool table, gold brass chandeliers, a brown-and-beige-patterned carpet, dark woods, Italian leathers. Gorgeous! I could move in here.
Now I see the appeal but won’t admit as much.
Thinking of our bet, I pay attention to the art on the walls. It’s expensive. I can tell by the numbered print and the signature. Painters with indecipherable and artistic signatures are often the artists to watch. It’s like they know from the moment they paint their first work that they’re on to something big, something that will distinguish their work from all others.
I wish Cullen loved art as much as I do. Maybe I could drag him away from the tables to a local gallery.
“Wow. I could just live he—” I spin around and bump into his big warm body, and he bends his head and kisses my words right out of me.
Kisses me stupid. Kisses my toes curled. Kisses my brain blank. Kisses my heart crazy.

  7 win at any cost
