“Not everyone you love is going to leave you…but what if they do?” For Nate Lucas, this was his reality. When he lost her, he was left with no choice. Life was impossible in Crawley without her. He couldn’t live with all of the memories or her ghost. He vowed to never return again. It was business that brought him back and the chance to right a wrong, but then she needed him; his best friend’s little sister. Her life and her child’s were in danger. It was an arrangement until it became more. He vowed to never love again; to never allow the past a chance to repeat itself, but sometimes you’re left with no choice. When the walls around your heart are finally breached, do you run and save yourself or stay and fight for the chance to love again? When you lose your way, how do you find the way home?
**The Way Home is an Interconnected Standalone in The Chasing Series. Each book features a different couple.**
This book stands alone. Third in the series the other characters are referred to and even show up, however make no mistake this is a complete story—AND I LOVED IT. Returning to his home town, Nate wonders if there is life after Natalie--His love in high school who died before she could even tell him she was pregnant. Years later he returns to buy back his home where his grandmother raised him and try to start a new life. However that life would never include a woman who could tear his barely patched heart apart again.
Until Miley—and of course little Sierra. Now he had a new battle—no longer just trying to survive, now he had to keep them from creeping in that black hole in the middle of his chest. But they weren't safe. He'd spent his life after Natalie bringing in bad guys who hurt good people. There was a real bad guy after Miley and neither of them were safe. How was he supposed to keep his heart safe with a woman so beautiful inside and out that it hurt just to look at her? And that little mite was a creeper—a creeper of the heart. Both of them were feisty and tempted him to tease just to work them up—then working up Miley in other ways was more than he could control.
He vowed to keep them safe until the man after them was caught. How was he supposed to protect them and his heart with them staying with him, the only way he knew to keep them safe.
I loved watching Nate return to life, fight back his demons with the memories of his Gran and the two females worthy of him despite Nate's worries and her fear of her reputation and the man after her. They are worthy of each other and so good together. It is a tough road and you will love reading their story.
A strong recommend.
“You didn’t get too hot, did you?” she asked, her expression filled with concern. “Nah, I’m fine,” I muttered, scratching my beard. I turned away and slammed the car’s hood down, and then I took a deep breath to try to gain control of myself. I would not touch her. I would not. A soft hand landed on my shoulder at the same time a splatter of rain loudly plopped against the car’s hood. A few drops landed on my skin. It was cold, but I could have sworn I heard them sizzle since her touch had set me on fire. Need coursed through my body overriding my senses. Overhead, the clouds were heavy and dark. In the air there was the overwhelming scent of rain mixed with the sweet scent of the woman standing behind me. I couldn’t fucking take it. Pushed beyond my control, I spun around to face her. For the rest of my life whenever I smelled the scent of honeysuckle, I would always think of her. When her pink tongue darted out to briefly skim her lower lip, I lost all train of thought. She was teasing me. My body automatically gravitated to hers. Sultry eyes full of want stared back at me with a heat that matched my own. I reached out a hand and cupped her jaw, then slid my hand along her neck where I was able to tangle my fingers in her thick hair in order to draw her closer. My other arm encircled her waist, and I pulled her flush against me. All of that softness and those curves melding into mine turned my brain to mush. She felt like fucking heaven and the answer to all of my prayers. “Nate,” she whispered, and the tortured sound of my name slipping past her lips was downright unbearable. Somewhere in the back of my mind, there was a split second where sanity tried to return. Maybe, I should let her go. The sky chose that exact moment to open up. A torrent of summer rain washed all of that damn nonsense straight from my head. My lips crashed down onto hers, sinking into all of that sweetness. I devoured her whole. Never had anything tasted as good as the woman in my arms. She was fucking addictive.
