Broken But Breathing is book #2 in the Jinxed Tattoos series and it is a standalone. I personally find that phrase, standalone, to be an oxymoron and I should have known better then to read books out of order. COULD you read Broken But Breathing without first reading Enzo? Yeah, you could, I did, I’m not happy though. I feel that the reader is going to find out things that will happen in book one before it’s been read, I did. I also feel strongly that things will be referenced in subsequent that happened in previous books that might not make sense if books are not read in order, this too happened. Are they HUGE things? Probably not, but I am a very detailed oriented reader and it made me crazy not understanding where the reference to an event came from, maybe it’s just me.
I LOVE Shyla Colt and I love her characters. This is 100% most defiantly a tear jerker. I am emotionally constipated so I worked very hard not to succumb to the emotion, it wasn’t easy, so I suggest you have a tissue box handy. This had to be a very difficult book for the author to write as it deals with some serious issues and I give her credit for pushing through to create this work. I can’t say it is my favorite book from this author, but even saying that doesn’t make it a bad book. Shyla is a wonderful author and I’m always grateful when I have a chance to dive into her world. I give this book 4 stars.
