Cover Package: Enzo (Jinx Tattoo Novel #1) by Shyla Colt

 Title: Enzo
Series: Jinx Tattoos Book 1
Author: Shyla Colt
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 29, 2016
Neglected, abandoned by a heroin-addicted mother, and placed in foster care at ten, Enzo Jordan has learned one thing…love hurts. At thirty-five, he has a successful tattoo shop and his choice of women. The one-night stands are getting old, and the love he holds for his best friend, Aibhlinn is impossible to hide. When the attraction between them reaches a boiling point, he's forced to choose between facing his fears and walking away.
Aibhlinn Leahy has been in love with her best friend for years. The Irish-born comic book artist has poured time, energy, and love into the wounded man. His choice to walk away breaks her heart but frees her to explore a new future.
Life is a cruel and amazing thing. An abandoned baby brings the two back together, and they’re forced to examine the love that has long existed between them. This is a story of pain, scars, and fear. We all have demons to battle. The real decision is who's in control…us or them?

People wondered about him and his best friend, Aibhlinn. They didn’t think a man, and a woman could be friends without jumping in the bed together. His theory was the exact opposite. Sex ruined things. It broke up lifelong relationships, made people paranoid, and upset the natural order you first had before romance entered the picture. No, his spitfire Irish lass with the piercing blue-green eyes and flowing Chesnutt mane would remain off limits forever.

The very thought of her made him smile. Even on his darkest day, she never failed to bring him a little happiness. He walked to the front door of his house and locked the door behind Tracey. A quick glance at the clock told him he had bout thirty minutes to get his ass into gear. He walked back over the maple hardwood floor and into the bathroom. The white on white tiles and glass shower enclosure made the room appear more open and easy to get into and out of, which made the space tolerable.

Turning on the hot water, he sank onto the bench at the far end of the massive stall and let the steam gathering clear his pores and his muddled head. Lack of sleep and beer had him feeling sluggish. After a few minutes, he rose to his feet, and stepped under the spray quickly soaped down, and rinsed off.

He was pulling on his plaid button up when the doorbell rang. A few moments later the lock turned.

“You decent birthday boy?” Aibhlinn called with the slight light he’d grown to love.

“Yeah, I’m coming out now,” Enzo said.

He appeared in the doorway and smiled. Dressed in a pair of black skinny jeans that hugged her thick thighs, and large ass, she was mouthwatering. Off limits, didn't mean he couldn't admire her assets. An off the shoulder Pink Floyd sweater showed off tantalizing porcelain flesh. She had her hair pulled up into a messy bun that showed off her long, slender neck.

“You ready to go?” she asked.

“What? No breakfast?” He asked.

She rolled her eyes “Smart ass. We’ll be back for that later. If you don’t hurry, we’ll miss the sunrise.”

He nodded his head and walked toward her, wrapping an arm around her waist as they hugged. He pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Thanks for coming, Ave.”

“Where else would I be?” She whispered.

Anywhere, with someone worthy of your time and affection. It was his deepest fear. That she’d enter a romantic relationship, and their friendship would go by the wayside. It was selfish. Wanting her to remain his number one girl. She deserved more. It worked for them now. They were both artists obsessed by the act of creating.

The year were passing swiftly, and she’d gone from unknown to sought after in her career field. First come loves, and then comes marriage. He snarled, pushing the thought of the day she too would leave him far in the background of his brain.

“Come on, I’ll drive,” she said pulling him to the door. He allowed her to manipulate him.

At five-foot-eleven, she still lacked the strength to move him if he resisted. Along with fucking, he liked to work out. It kept his head from getting overcrowded and allowed him a healthy way to work out his frustrations. Locking the door behind them, he followed her to the black SUV. She hit the Fob and unlocked the door.

Enzo was at the driver’s side, opening her door before she could protest. He knew how to treat a woman. He wasn’t so fucked up that he felt a sick need to use and abuse them. His mother, the angel who adopted him and straightened his ass out, would skin him alive if he ever went that route.

“Thanks, Enz,” she said climbing into her seat as he made his way to the passenger side. He leaned back against the seat and zoned out as she pulled out of his driveway and headed for their destination.

Fog hung in the air, creating a thin layer of white. The haze turned the massive structure to something mystical, or creepy, depending on how one looked at it. Bundled against the fall chill, they made their way from the car and into Ault Park, headed for the Pavilion. After the climb, his eyes drank in the frosted landscape. He shoved his hands in his pockets.

This park held good and bad memories. His birth mother brought him here many times. Originally he thought it was because she was a good mother who loved the outdoors and knew he loved to be among the beauty the park offered. As he grew, he understood it was a public place to get her fix. No one thought twice of a man, a woman, and a child walking through the woods.

He’d never forget the first time his brain registered the cash she gave Uncle Ian was for drugs. The tiny brown squares were heroin. They’d found her body here on his sixteenth birthday, needle still in her arm, eyes vacant, and body cold. She’d turned a day he already loathed into something even worse. He inhaled, embracing the chilly air that crept down his throat and into his chest.

The ache meant he was alive. That he’d survived against the odds. Thinking of the days scrounging for food in garbage cans, stealing from the stores, and running drugs for dope boys to feed his starving gut he shuddered. She always saved the most fucked up shit for his birthday, like an anti-birthday gift. That last day she’d left and never returned was his twelfth birthday.

He bowed his head in solemn remembrance. All the bullshit made it hard for a guy to feel joy on the day he came into the world and landed in a pile of festering shit. But that’s not where you are now. He glanced over at the woman standing beside him as the sky yielded from an inky blue to a purple, and a dusky orange. The suns' rays turned everything golden and for that moment in time things were clean and new. The world was a hopeful place. The darkness was banished.

NIGHT’S TEMPLAR BY JOEY W. HILL

(Book XIII of the Vampire Queen series / BDSM paranormal romance / Male-male)

Blurb: Lord Uthe, a member of the Vampire Council, was a Templar Knight centuries ago. Even up to the present day, he has attempted to honor the spirit of the Rule, despite the volatile and highly sexual nature of the vampire world. Yet now he’s caught the attention of the Fae Lord Keldwyn, liaison between the Council and Fae Court. Keldwyn challenges Uthe’s emotional isolation and dominant nature. When a quest from Uthe’s past requires Keldwyn’s help to protect both their worlds, Uthe will have to decide whether the Fae male is a gift from God to be cherished and trusted, or a curse that will make Uthe fail the Order he promised to serve all his life.

“What does subjugated to your will mean, Lord Keldwyn?” Uthe demanded. “I have a goal to accomplish. It does me no good to go to your world if that mission will be hampered by your demands.” “I will not get in the way of that, never fear. Until your task in the Fae world is done, you will lie with me when I desire it.” For a moment, Uthe thought he’d misheard him. The request was so banal, at odds with the complexity that he normally associated with Keldwyn’s motives. He blinked. “Your price for being my tour guide is that I be your whore?” “I will not be paying for your services, my lord. Your payment to me, for my sponsorship, is your body.” Keldwyn swept his gaze over it, lingering on the columns of Uthe’s thighs, the way the cotton shirt stretched over his shoulders. Muscles tightened under his regard, and Uthe had to quell the desire to shift again. “You have compromised your chastity over the years to prove yourself vampire rather than Templar,” the Fae said. “And to protect your mission and secrets. You deemed them far more vital to your charge than your personal pride in keeping your vows." Uthe templed his fingers. He would treat this as a debate, like the many topics they’d dissected and argued over chess. That would calm the nerves jumping in his belly, as ridiculous as those experienced by a virgin bride on her wedding night. "I wonder how many of your Templars preserved their ideals as faithfully as you have,” Keldwyn mused. “They had to do it only for a mortal life span, or until the Order ended. Whereas you have clung to them for centuries. Is it hubris, a fear of having no faith, or something else that makes you that stubborn?" "To believe in nothing is no better than to believe in too much," Uthe said between his teeth. “A sentiment on coffee mugs and T-shirts. It is cliché and old, unoriginal.” “Just as you putting a sexual price on your patronage is.” “Careful,” Keldwyn said. Uthe felt that thrum of energy again as the Fae Lord’s gaze flashed with heat. “I will have your oath on bended knee that you offer yourself to me willingly. If you do not, your mission cannot proceed.” Uthe met the onyx and moonstone gaze. “You weary me,” he said. “Whatever it is you hope to gain with your torment, Lord Keldwyn, I wish you well of it. If it is my body you desire, it is yours. It is merely future ashes and dust.” Keldwyn straightened in the chair, uncrossing his ankles. His elegant hands dangled loosely on the end of either chair arm as he looked pointedly at the floor between his braced feet. It drew Uthe’s gaze to the columns of his thighs, the spread of his legs making it impossible not to note the impressive evidence of his virility under the molded fabric. He forced his gaze upward, but refused to look at Keldwyn’s face to see if he’d noticed him looking. “Your oath,” Keldwyn repeated. “I am waiting, Lord Uthe. Unless you have decided your quest is not as important as your virtue.” “Perhaps your revulsion for sharing your blood with a vampire is only matched by my distaste for sharing your bed.” “If that was the case, you would not be aroused now.” Uthe bared his fangs in a dangerous smile. He’d hung his sword on the back of the chair. Rising, he drew the blade from the scabbard in one swift movement, a whisper of menace. Let the bastard think he might try to skewer him, regardless of the consequences. Keldwyn did not move, though Uthe had the satisfaction of seeing the sensual mouth thin, the eyes rivet on him in that cool, watchful way that suggested he might be close to inciting the Fae’s temper. He liked the idea too much. There was more at stake here than a pissing match, and he was channeling desire into aggression to deny his need. He ignored the faint tremor in his hands, the tightness in his chest as he teetered on the precipice of doing the unthinkable. Planting the tip of the blade in a groove of the oak flooring, he dropped to one knee. “Speak your oath, and I will repeat it in good faith, my lord,” he said, a growl. “You have my promise to adhere to it, unless it countermands God’s will.” “I have noticed you still speak like a Templar, vampire. After all these decades.” “In this modern world, promises are broken for convenience or comfort. I will not use casual words to speak a true oath.” “Very well.” Keldwyn stood, moving the chair back and putting his hand on the pommel, curling his fingers over Uthe’s. His touch was cool, his palm smooth against Uthe’s knuckles. “Swear to be bound to me, offering your body willingly to my desires and demands, no reservations, until your quest is done. In God’s name.” “I think God has little to do with this,” Uthe said, but he repeated it, his gaze lifting to meet the Fae’s. “I swear myself bound to you, the Fae Lord Keldwyn, liaison of the Unseelie and Seelie Courts, liaison for the Vampire Council. I will offer my body willingly to your desires and demands, until my quest is done.” “With no reservations,” Keldwyn prompted. “You will not hold your mind apart from me, Lord Uthe. I will not consider the oath served if you lie like a board while I fuck you.” He slid a curled hand along Uthe’s cheek, so Uthe felt the rough edges of the ring resting above Keldwyn’s knuckle. “Say it.” “With no reservations,” Uthe said, hearing the harsh rasp of his voice, a reaction to Keldwyn speaking his intentions so baldly. His hand was clenched on the pommel, and Keldwyn’s, still upon his, would feel it. “I swear.” Keldwyn removed his hand, giving him a speculative look. “Access to our world must mean a great deal to you, Lord Uthe. I did not expect to win your agreement so easily.” “Accomplishing my quest is all that matters. The rest does not.” “Clever. You imply my demands do not matter, that they are as nothing to you. I am glad you are so unaffected. Because I require a demonstration of your oath, right now.”

  About Joey W. Hill

HAVEN’T READ ANY OF JOEY’S VAMPIRE QUEEN SERIES?

This is a great time to start. Joey did mention this is the 13th book, right? You have plenty to read! Since Keldwyn and Uthe’s story is pretty deeply entrenched in the culture of her vampires, she wouldn’t recommend reading it first. However, you don't have to read ALL of the twelve preceding books to enjoy it; you just need more familiarity with the Vampire Queen’s world. According to her, Beloved Vampire (Book 4) is a standalone and a GREAT gateway book into the series with the sexy Lord Mason. Or you can read the first two in the series, Vampire Queen's Servant and Mark of the Vampire Queen, because Lady Lyssa and Jacob started it all. Excerpts and blurbs for the whole series are here - http://www.storywitch.com/series-vqs. Each book comes with a recommendation on whether it can be read as a standalone or which books should be read as prequels for it.   She thanks you all for considering her vampires! She was gorgeous.
She was haunted.
She was to be his temporary muse.
Millicent Valentine isn't looking for much when she walks into The Brew Cycle for a night out with friends. She isn't after love. Why risk the heartache when one night of unbridled passion will do the trick? Any handsome, willing male will do just fine. When she is introduced to the lead singer of Mountains & Men, she can't seem to take her eyes off of him. He’s an arrogant little shit—but it’s only one night, right?
Sage McCoy is always on the prowl, knowing he can get just about any girl in the room after a night on stage. When he’s introduced to Millie, there is no doubt in his mind that he has to have her. But when he gets her alone, she makes his heart sing and he’s convinced one night will never do.
When morning dawns, the knowledge that comes with the sun has Millicent kicking Sage to the curb—but he knows what he wants and he’s ready for the chase.
His one night stand is worthy of an encore.

Sage
I order a beer, as I always stay away from the hard stuff before I go on. I don’t perform drunk or high or any of that shit. For me, it’s all about the music, the energy, the crowd—I don’t need anything other than the thrill I get just from being on stage, and I’ll never compromise my sound. Most of the guys don’t perform drunk, either. They may have a few drinks—and I sure as hell won’t stop them; I’m not their fucking mother—but we all know our limits and we don’t play sloppy. We play hard and then we party hard.
“Hey, Rockstar.” I hear her voice just as she taps my shoulder.
I turn, unabashedly happy to see her face. “Sarah! You made it,” I cry as I pull her in for a hug.
I live and breathe Mountains & Men. It’s who I am. That said, it doesn’t pay the bills just yet. By day, I work a part time gig at Little Bird Cafe, also recently named Home of Brandon’s Bakery—that’s how I met Sarah. She’s new, been around for about a week now. It didn’t take long for me to decide she’s one sweet-ass chick. Case in point, she came to see us play tonight.
I step back, curling my fingers beneath hers as I lift her arm and give her a proper once over. I’ve seen the way my boss, Brandon, looks at her. She’s most certainly off limits, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t look.
Damn, babe. Remind me not to introduce you to the guys. Their girlfriends would kill me,” I tease.
Truth be told, only two of us have girlfriends. Maddox has Andrea. Well, today, at least. They break up about once a week, so they really don’t count. Then there’s JJ; his woman’s name is Violet. I swear he’s going to marry that girl. The rest of us are just a bunch of single fools playing the field. Knox is the worst. He’s about one notch away from being a fucking man-whore.
Sarah laughs at me, shaking her head as she lets go of my hand. “I brought friends,” she says, turning her attention over her shoulder. “These are my neighbors, Aria, and her boyfriend, Josh.” I shake both of their hands and thank them for coming.
Then all I see is her.
Her long legs, tucked into that tight, frayed jean skirt.
Her narrow hips, begging to be guided in a side to side sway.
Her perfect tits, smaller than average and perfect for biting.
Her straight hair, hanging past her shoulders.
Her sweetheart lips, just plump enough to suck on.
Her eyes, green and gorgeous.
Her eyes, haunted and mysterious.
There are demons in those eyes…

“…my roommate, Millie.” I nod, hearing only the end of Sarah’s introduction.
“Hi,” speaks the vision before me. A smirk tugs at the corner of my mouth, pleased to know that the name Sarah just spoke into my ear belongs to this woman.
I can tell as I take her hand that she’s completely unfazed by me, but that will change. I see the demons in her eyes and I know we’ll dance.
My smirk morphs into a smile at her cool touch. She’s not convinced, but I am.
Fuck, yes—a challenge.
When I let her go, I feel her melody start to swirl around in my head. My heart rate kicks up a notch, the thrill of this chase—of this composition—amping me up. I don’t hear the overhead music, I don’t hear the hum of the crowd, I hear her—I hear Millie.
I will myself to look away, knowing I’ve got to get back to the guys. Before I go, I bring my lips to Sarah’s ear. “Your roommate is a fox. Put in a good word for me, alright?” I grin at her as I begin to back my way through the crowd. I look at Millie one last time before I turn my back on them, pulling out my phone as I go. I’ve got to get this out…
I hit record and the words tumble from my lips.
I see the demons in your eyes and I want to dance
Can’t stop the beat I hear from one haunted glance
Take my hand, baby, don’t let go
I’ll set you free, baby, won’t let go
All night/One song
This room/My home
I’ll set you free, baby, don’t let go
Tonight/Just give me tonight
“I thought you were going to get a beer?” asks Knox as he jumps from the side of the stage upon my approach. I shake my head and chuckle, pocketing my phone. “What the hell happened to you? Ten minutes ago, you looked about ready to make heads roll,” he mutters with a frown.
“I’m getting laid tonight, bro,” I state boldly.
His face breaks out into a grin as he laughs. “Why am I not surprised? Point her out to me later and maybe I’ll be nice and keep my distance,” he adds with a wink. “Come on, the guys are waiting on us.”
